Iphone 5S – No Back Light How easy to fix – is this looking for proper solutions of iphone hardware issue

Hey fellas,

I have a iphone 5S that had water damage. There was some corrosion on the board near the lcd connectors, but I cleaned it. The phone seems to operate just fine expect that the back light from the screen will not power up…although if I look close I can still see the icons and the time and everything else on screen. Its just that the screen is very dim since there is no light behind it.

My question is, how easy would this be to fix? Or how much would it cost to fix?

Other Info: I have already switched the LCD screen Along with a working one and still got the same result. I looked very close to the board and can see one filter missing and some others around it look slightly damaged.

It depends on how experienced you are, and if you have the tools available. It seems you know a bit, as you refer to a missing filter-which is common, on water damaged iphones, so resoldering the lcd connector, and replacing filters (or jump them) should solve your problem, and if you were to pay to get it repaired, prices could vary from £20 to £40.

^Dog68 Oh no, by all means I am not experienced Along with any type of soldering repairs on water damaged phones. The only reason I said missing filter was because I was looking at one of the 5S back light solution pics on this forum and they referred to them as filters.

What is this jump you speak of? Is that like shorting them or something?

I am very nervous at trying to do any kind of solder repair myself… fearing that I might short out the entire mother board causing it to be completely worthless.

Do you know of any reliable mail-in shops that can fix it for cheap? If not, I will just flat out sell the phone to someone that actually can do this repair. Its a shame, this phone is in amazing condition if it wasnt for that screen light.
