Need Assistance with iPhone 5 – bundle of problems ! old iphone set issue solution

Hey guys. I am new to this forum but I have a question that I was hoping you could to be helped me Along with. My wife has an iPhone 5 and the touch screen quit working. So, I purchased a replacement screen and installed it and everything worked fine. Then I installed a new home button and all was well. Then, I took the earpiece out of the old screen and moved it over to the new screen and the screen then quit working like the old one. So, do you think there is just a problem Along with the earpiece itself that causes the touchscreen to malfunction? I have never tried to work on phones before so it escapes me how one component could effect another this way. But, like I said, Ian new at this and I wanted to get any advise I could before I dump more money in a phone that I already told my wife to upgrade. 😜 Thanks and if this is a stupid question, kindly forgive my ignorance and indulge me.
